US Congressman. An 1875 graduate in civil engineering from Union College in Schenectady, New York, he operated as an independent miner and shipper of anthracite coal. After serving as the mayor of Pittston, Pennsylvania, he was elected to Congress as a Republican from Pennsylvania in 1910. His election was challenged and, after he served from May 1911 to December 1912, the seat was declared vacant. Defeated for reelection in 1912, he returned to the coal business in Pittston.
