Soda Springs- Delbert I. Bevins 93, of Soda Springs, passed away Thursday, November 4, 1999 at the Caribou Memorial Hospital. He was born October 18, 1906 at Cleveland Idaho, the son of George and Jane Ames Bevins. He married Ula Walton, October 5, 1940 at Cleveland. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah Temple in 1960. He was reared and educated in Cleveland Idaho. He had lived at Thayne Wyoming for two years, and the past 54 years at Soda Springs.
When Delbert was 18 his sister's husband, Levi Kendall was killed, leaving her with five children and one unborn child. Delbert reared them until they were grown. Five of these children followed him into the service, and all returned home. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Delbert had worked on cattle ranches in the area, and re tired after 25 years, delivering Challenge Milk in Soda Springs, McCammon and Downey areas. After his retirement he worked for his son at the Ponderosa tavern for nine years.
He was a member of the Soda Springs LDS Third Ward. Delbert enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, his family and home.
He is survived by his wife, Ula, of Soda Springs; two sons and three daughters and their spouses, Scott and Shauna Bevins, Ronnie and Bonnie Bevins, all of Soda Springs, Nancy Job, Idaho Falls, Linda and Ralph Stoor, Wayan, Idaho, and Bonnie and Dan Bailey, also Soda Springs. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son day Darris, a grandson Michael, two brothers, Morris and William, and a sister Myrtle.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 8, at noon at the Soda Springs LDS Stake Center, located at Third West and Third South, with Bishop Ronald Myers officiating. Friends may call on Sunday evening, November 7, at the Sims funeral home from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday at the stake center from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery.
