Joseph was the son of William Waskom, Sr b. 9-13-1760 and Mary (Pierson) Waskom b. 5-20-1763. m. 6-17-1784

Census shows that the Waskom family emigrated from Chester County, Kennett Township Pennsylvania to Shelby County, Kentucky, sometime between 1790 and 1800.

Joseph and his wife Sarah (Young). were married 8-31-1820 by Rev. Hinson Hobbs.
Sarah was the daughter of Jacob and Rachel (Goodnight) Young. ***The Youngs were the Great grandparents of President Harry S. Truman. Their son Solomon Young. was President Truman's grandfather on his mother side.***
