Ada Edna Mears Solbrig and her twin sister were born April 18, 1925, in Littlefield, Texas, to Thomas J. "Tom" and Mary Pearl Shaw Mears. She grew up on the Mears farm in western Wilbarger County and the Mears Ranch across the Pease River in Hardeman County, both near the Rayland community. Moving to the Vega area with her parents and siblings in 1940, she graduated from Vega High School in 1943. She graduated in 1948 from Martin Cosmetology School on Sixth Street in Amarillo. Ada married Clinton Bernhard "Pete" Solbrig on May 31, 1952, in Texico, NM. They celebrated 56 years of marriage.

Over the years, Ada was a telephone operator at the "Hello Central" office in Vega, owned by the Landrums. She also was an operator at the old telephone office on Tyler Street. After she became a cosmetologist, she owned a beauty shop in Vega. She also worked for several shops in Amarillo. She was a very loving wife, mother and Nana. She was an avid shopper and loved visiting with anyone who also had the gift of gab. Ada was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and Morning Star EE Club.
