Son of Roy Samuel Casteel and Dorothy Lorene Schmitt-Casteel, brother of Mary M. Casteel, Betty Anne Casteel, Paul Douglas Casteel, and Donald Leonard Casteel, husband of Ann Delores Langley-Casteel, father of Floyd Randall Casteel and Curtis Allen Casteel, grandfather of Amanda Caroline Casteel, Leighann Casteel, Jessica Rocelle Casteel, Ryan Brandon Casteel, and Jared Allen Casteel. His grandchildren were the love of his life.

This is a poem written by Maxine Griffis-Bruns for her grandsons, Ryan & Jared Casteel following the death of their paternal grandfather Fred Samuel Casteel on April 9, 2005. Fred Samuel Casteel is the father of Curtis Allen Casteel, who was married to Maxine's daughter Sarah René Cronnon-Barnes from 1984 until 1991. The boys were particularly close with their grandfather, and spent a great deal of time with him. Fred Samuel Casteel was the owner of Fred's TIre Service, and often had Ryan & Jared with him while he was working. He could often be spotted around town in his truck, and always had a honk and a wave for friends and family when he passed them on the road. On the front of his truck was a tag that read, " Ask Me About My Grandchildren". This tag was on the front of his truck from the time it was given to him as a gift from René and the boys until his death. It was removed from his truck after his death and buried with him.

Pawpaw

By Maxine Griffis-Bruns

He was your Pawpaw,

Freddie was his name.

Oh how he loved his grandsons,

each of you the same.

You could call him anytime

of the night or day.

Just let me finish up this tire,

and I'll be on my way.

Before long you could hear

that old truck a coming.

He would catch another gear,

that truck would be a humming.

He would pull right up in front

and load you both in.

He wasn't just your Paw-paw,

he was one of your best friends.

Now he is in heaven

looking down from above.

Although you're going to miss him,

you're still surrounded by his love.

He left lots of good memories

of the good times that you had,

Think about him often,

but try not to be sad.
