Rev. Joseph Wilson Singleterry professed a hope in Christ in 1841. He was the first profession in Walker County, Georgia. He was baptized and took up his cross at once. He was licensed to preach in Jackson County, Alabama in 1848. He moved from Georgia to Illinois in 1863. From Illinois to Texas in 1871, where he was ordained to the full work of the ministry in 1875 in Montague County, Texas at Brushy Church. He traveled as an independent evangelist for four years in Montague, Jack, Clay, and Wise Counties. He assisted in the organization of the Jacksboro Association and Montague Association. He moved to Vernon, Texas, and assisted in organizing the church there. He and Brother Love organized the Church in Henrietta, Texas. In 13 months, he assisted in organizing 10 churches. He did most all his traveling on foot. He then moved to Clarendon, Texas, and was in the organization of the church there.

Rev. Joseph Wilson Singleterry was born May 20, 1818 in North Carolina. He married as his first wife, Susana Dickey. He was baptized int the Baptist Church in N.C. by Rev. Humphrey Posey. He filled the office o Deacon in Lookout Church in Northwest Georgia. Nearthe close of the Civil War he moved his family to Illinois. There he was ordained to preach at Betel Church at Burt Praire, White County, Illinois. After the death of his wife in 1869, he went west, and traveled as a missionary in Missouri, Kansas, and Texas. He joined his son, Drury (Drew) and the rest of the Singleterry clan, to file on land nor of Texico, and helped to organize the fist Baptist Church. He died July 2, 1911. He is burie Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
