Emma L. "Betty" Riley, 90, of Freeport, formerly of Vandergrift, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008, while in the company of family members at Allegheny Valley Hospital, Harrison Township. Mrs. Riley was born Sept. 23, 1917, in Hyde Park, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel (Fouse) Shay. Betty worked for many years as a self-employed house cleaner. She was a member of First Methodist Church, Vandergrift. Betty was a member of the Women's Benevolent Society, Ladies Auxiliary of the Vandergrift Moose Lodge and a past member of the Kiski Valley CBers. She enjoyed doing craft work, ceramics, bingo, dominos and playing cards. She is survived by her three daughters, Patricia Tardivo, of Vandergrift, Betty Jane (Charles) Leeker, of Leechburg, and Barbara (Robert) Ranieri, of Freeport; a brother, Thomas Shay, of Mansfield, Ohio; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Elma Snyder, who passed in 2001. Family and friends are being received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St., Freeport, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor William Kemp officiating. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Gilpin Township, Leechburg.
