The son of Charles E. Hodgden, Sr. and Anne (Bockoven) Hodgden .

He was a brother to Rev. Sidney Hodgden , Henry Hodgden (a Justice of the Peace), Carolyn, Martha, & Nettie.

Marriage wife #1, Mary Jane Lampman, May 20, 1849, Union County, Ohio. This union produced one son, Emmett Bruce Hodgden .

Married wife #2, Sarah Cooksey, on July 7, 1861. This marriage was recorded in Union County, Ohio. However, no mention of this marriage ever appears again. No record of death or divorce. And Charles, Jr. does not list her as a wife on his military records.

Married wife #3, Magdelena Moore, January 1, 1866, Union County, Ohio. This marriage produced 5 children... Estella, John H., Homer A., Emma Della, & Albert Hodgden.

Sometime after Emmett Bruce's birth, Charles, Jr. and Mary Jane Lampman, moved to Branch County, Michigan where they bought a farm near Coldwater, Michigan. Charles sold his farm on February 24, 1857 for nine hundred dollars (recorded document). His great-granddaughter, Arletta (Bower) Hanson had in her possession, a letter telling of the return of Charles, Jr. to Ohio with his little son, (Emmett Bruce Hodgden) following Mary Jane's death and the sale of his farm.

Charles, Jr. and Magdelena moved to Kansas sometime after their wedding, along with other members of the Charles, Sr. families. They went first to Crocker, Missouri, and then to Centerville Township, Neosho County, Kansas (the Galesburg, Kansas area) where they homesteaded land in the early 1870's.
