Mr. Ben Chester Griffin, 63, of 517 Goldwater Street, departed this life Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at his home. He was born in Cleveland County, to Mrs. Naomi Ussery Griffin, of Lawndale, and the late Mr. Terry Fred Griffin.

In addition to his father, Ben was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Portee Adams; one brother, Jasper Griffin; and a stepson, Raymond Harper. Ben graduated from Douglas High School in Cleveland County, in 1962 and he married Josephine Griffin on July 15, 1979. Ben was a founding member of New Life Christian Church in Kings Mountain. A retiree of Cleveland County Schools, he owened Joyful Living Community Support Services of Shelby, Ben was the president of the Traditional Men Organization, recognized by the Cleveland County Board of Commissioners. He was a member of the NAACP.

In addition to his mother, Ben leaves to cherish loving memories his wife of 29 years, Josephine Griffin; one daughter, Carla Griffin of Charlotte; sons, Darryll Griffin and Tott D. Griffin; stepdaughters, Sharon McGuire, and Teresa Vincent (Drew); sisters, Sharon Griffin Crosby and Patricia Griffin, both of Lawndale; two brothers, Henry Griffin (Willen) of Shelby, and Willie Griffin (Ollie) of Detroit, Michigan; six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; a large extended family and many friends. The Funeral was held on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Shelby, NC. Apostle Rachael Johnson officiated. Genesis Funeral Home
