MARIA [SCHEFFLER] MEITZKE and her husband, Friedrich, arrived in the US out of Hamburg with their three sons--August, Friedrich, and Paul--in November 1880. They hailed from Nosewitz, Ostpreußen/East Prussia--modern-day Mozgowo, Zalewo, Poland. The family was of German descent and settled in Amherst, Ohio, where Maria gave birth to their youngest son/child, Henry, in 1882. According to the ship manifest, Maria was one year older than her husband and age 35 upon arrival, however, later records, including her death certificate and tombstone, state that she was born in 1854 rather than 1844.
