John Bailey died in April of 1930 in the Miles City hospital. He contracted typhoid after taking a drink from a pond while riding out in the hills. His son Jack was born on December 5 of that same year.

Forsyth, Lee Friends Mourn Passing of Young Rancher
Forsyth, May 1, 1930
Hundreds gathered here and at Lee Tuesday morning to pay their respects to John Bailey, prominent young rancher of the upper Rosebud, who died Sunday morning at the Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City of typhoid fever.
Funeral services were held in the Catholic church by the Rev. Fr. H. D. Oldbattone. Many people came here from Lee, Rosebud and surrounding country to join this procession which left at 12:30 for Lee, where a crowd waited at the grave.
Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bailey, also by two sisters, Mrs. William Broadus of Forsyth and Mrs. Joe Egan and by a brother, James.
Mr. Bailey and James now are patients in the Miles City hospital receiving treatment for typhoid fever.
Note: At the time of the funeral most people were unaware that Jack's mother, Helen, was pregnant. Jack was born Dec. 5th of that year.
