Before enlisting, William was a showman. He enlisted on 9-24-1875 in Brewster Station, NY (now Brewster) into the 7th US Calvary, Co. F. becoming a private under General Custer. He died at Little Big Horn with Custer and 257 other men.

(William is also listed under Saint Lawrence O'Toole, but, according to their office, he is really buried in Old Methodist. The cemeteries are next to each other, but not joined in any other way.)
