Emma was the daughter of John William Rochholz and Anna Maria Wildt. She married Lewis James Munn at her sister's house in Moline, Illinois, 14 September 1882. She and Lewis had two children: Emma Blanche and Oliver Dunster. According to her daughter, Emma was "a little, independent, chip-on-the-shoulder" woman who "when she got mad was like a hen with all its feathers ruffled."
