Son of the late Luther Lorenzo and Cornelia Barnes Basnight, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ernestine Baynor Whitley Basnight; sisters, Elma B. Spruill, Annie B. Davenport, Ruby B. Freeman and Evelyn B. Winslow; brothers, Milton Basnight, Paul Basnight, Eugene Basnight and Calvin Basnight. He was a retired electrical and instrument supervisor with Weyerhaeuser Corporation. He was a member of First Christian Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served on the Plymouth Town Council. He was a member of the Plymouth Country Club. He was survived by his second wife, Jean Bayton Basnight; sons, Stephen R. Basnight and Thomas C. Basnight; step-children; grandchildren; and an extended family of relatives and friends. His funeral was held August 2, 2008, at First Christian Church of Plymouth with The Rev. V. Tom Banks officiating.
