Joshua was the son of Greene Beckham (named for Revolutionary War leader, Nathaniel Greene) and Martha Patty Proctor. At age 5, Joshua and his family moved from Orange County, North Carolina, to Tennessee, living in Wayne and Hardin Counties. Here in Hardin County he married his first wife, Catharine Hinkle. In 1845, Joshua and Catharine, together with their three oldest children, Mary Jane, Elihu Chris and Martha Carolyn, moved from Hardin County, Tennessee, to Izard (the part that is now Stone) County, Arkansas, where Catharine gave birth to Christopher Columbus, Arena, Robert L. and Rhodey Leander (twins), Cincinnatus, and Andrew D. (these last 4 are listed on the 1870 Census of Rigg(s)ville, Bluemountain Twp., Izard County, AR, with their father and step-mother, and Andrew is ten). Andrew is also listed on the 1860 Census, while Catharine is still alive. Catherine died in 1863, during the hard times of the Civil War. Catharine died in (Richwoods) Mt. View, which was then located in Izard (later Stone) County, when Arkansas was one of the eleven Confederate States of America. About 1865, Joshua married Louiza Jane Bangs Cartwright. They had two children, Genarah and Richard Franklin. (Note: I do not have information showing that Joshua Mayberry and Catharine Hinkle Beckham were the parents of Felix Stanley Beckham. Please contact me if you have further information as to the parentage of Felix Stanley Beckham. Thank you.)
