Burrell B. Braswell was a son of Wesley H. Braswell and his wife Mary Ann New, who married on 28 July 1822 in Madison County, Georgia. In 1830, Wesley and Mary Ann were living in Newton County, but in 1840 and thereafter they lived in DeKalb County. They had a large family of about 13 children.

Burrell married Docia Catherine Wellborn on 16 Dec 1856 in DeKalb County. A few years later, in the Civil War, he served as a Private in Company K of the 2nd Regiment, Georgia Reserves. After the war, he and Docia moved to Jasper, Hamilton County, Florida and were there in 1870. By 1880 they were back in DeKalb County, Georgia, and remained there.

Their children were Augustus A. Braswell (died young), Wesley Wellborn Braswell, Bartow Belton Braswell, Lafayette L. Braswell, Ida Viola (Braswell) Evans, Albert Alonzo Braswell, Mamie J. (Braswell) Rogers, Clara E. (Braswell) Abram, Alice Estelle (Braswell) Eakes, and Mather Marvin Braswell.

Mortuary notice from the Atlanta Constitution, 11 May 1911, page 16:

"B. B. Braswell, Lithonia
Lithonia, Ga., May 10--(Special)--
B. B. Braswell, aged 78, one of the town's pioneer citizens, died yesterday after a brief illness."

(Note: According to the "Genealogy of Valentine Braswell" by Reuben A. Braswell, Burrell was born in 1832, not 1833.)
