Born Nov 1 1831 in Musquodoboit Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada, Leonard McKinley was married to Caroline Finley. He worked as a fisherman and laborer and lived in Somerville, Charlestown, Cambridge and Malden in the Boston area. He enlisted 13 Sept 1862 in the Mass 2d Battery and was mustered on 16 August 1864. He became a naturalized citizen in 1867. Oct 9 1892 he was admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers at Togus, Kennebeck, Maine, for rheumatism, I believe after the death of his wife. He died there after breaking his hip. His daughter Eleanor was married to Frank H. Allen of Fitchburg, Mass., and was mother to Frank Leonard Allen and Clarence Eugene Allen.
