Allen Josiah Alford came to Texas in 1854. He moved to Shelby County from Sabine County about 1888. Mr. Alford died suddenly at his home in the Sanders addition. Survivors included his wife; children: B. M. Alford, Shelby County clerk; Mrs. Sam Watson and Mrs. E. A. Doggett of the Joaquin community; Mrs. T. H. Brittain of Center; Mrs. Floyd Swanzy of Shelbyville; and Mrs. J. N. Combs of Kountze.
