Martha Gibbs Lincoln's memorial is puzzling. The picture of her TS shows no dates, but the memorial lists 1865 as her death year. This date is found in various family histories and internet trees. However, her husband, Jacob Lincoln remarried Eliza Jane Lofton in 1857 so Martha must have been dead by then. This is supported by the 1860 Census. Eliza Jane was dead before the 1870 Census, some say in 1865. This may be the source of the confusion.
It appears that this TS was placed years after Martha's death. It lists some of her children as "deceast." However, all but Thomas b/d 1842, died years after her: Mary Alice in 1885; William in 1875; Elizabeth in 1880. Charley b/d 1862 was a son of Jacob's second marriage.
