William Eli Campbell, of Grant 2, died Saturday at his home after a long illness. He was 79 years old.


He is survived by his wife, Zona Starnes Campbell; four sons, Walker of Grant, Fred of Woodville, Robert of Grant 1, and Jordan of Grant 2; four daughters, Mrs. Hattie Whitaker of Grant, Mrs. Willie Lewis of Grant 2, Mrs. Freeda Burroughs of Grant and Mrs. Odell Edmonds of Grant; two brothers, L. W. Campbell of Grant and Andrew Campbell of Gadsden; one sister, Mrs. Mary Parker of Scottsboro 3; 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.


The funeral was held at Free Home Baptist Church Sunday by Bro. Midas Roberts, Carr Funeral Home directing burial at the church cemetery.


Mr. Campbell was born on Gunters Mountain and in 1898 married Zona Starnes. He was a farmer and member of the Mt. Shade Church of Christ for the past 11 years.


His parents, Luther and Betsy Jane Wright Campbell, were natives of Marshall County.
