He was the son of J. N. Lucas, of West Monroe, and the brother of Mrs. Lou Esters, also of West Monroe.
Mr. Lucas, a native of Caldwell parish, formerly resided in Monroe.
He was killed when the car he was driving plunged into a barricade at a street excavation in Houston. Atlas D. Bolton, 40, a companion with Lucas at the time of the crash was critically injured but was expected to live.
Mr. Lucas, the father of five children, resided with his wife and children at 10000 Hartsock, Houston. He had lived in Houston for the past 12 years. He was a mechanic.
The body was due to arrive at Riser's Funeral Home in Columbia Saturday afternoon. It will remain at the funeral home until time for services.
Survivors include: his wife, the former Miss Geraldine Proffer of Olla, now of Houston; five children, Jimmie Jr., 12, Shirley, 9, Cathy, 6, Larry 2, and Patricia, 11 months; four sisters, Mrs. Thomas Cruse, of Columbia, Mrs. Hanna McCarter of Dallas, Tex., Mrs. Ella Smith, Savannah, Ga., and Mrs. Esters, of West Monroe; one brother, M. E. Lucas, Shreveport; his father, J. N. Lucas, of West Monroe.
