William Earl Kindred was born January 24, 1918, in Clermont, Lake County, FL to his parents, Carl Landlow Kindred (1892-1950) and Eva Frances (Isaac) Kindred (1891-1974). He graduated to heaven on Tuesday, June 8, 1999, in Jacksonville, Duval County, FL. After graduating from Clermont High School in Clermont, Lake County, FL, in 1936, he attended Florida Southern University for two years. William Earl Kindred and Anna Jean Penn were married on August 25, 1940 at Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Florida. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army between 1941-1945, including occupation of Japan following the war.

"Bill" worked as an accountant for several banks and companies in Jacksonville, FL. He faithfully attended Glendale Community Church, Jacksonville, FL, where he served as a deacon, treasurer, assistant Sunday School superintendent, and choir member. "Bill" enjoyed singing with church groups and with his family, using a ukulele or guitar while his daughter played the piano. He often sang duets with other choir members. He and Ann loved dressing up for Halloween, decorating for holidays, and participating in Christmas plays or cantatas. He enjoyed gardening, swimming, fishing, woodcrafts, painting, and helping others. He and his wife were frequent visitors to their elderly relatives and friends who were in hospitals or nursing homes. "Bill" greeted everyone with a smile and a warm hug or handshake. He enjoyed family reunions and large family gatherings and celebrations.

His wife of 59 years, Anna Jean (Penn) Kindred, two daughters, Judy Ann (Kindred) Switzer, Carol Sue (Kindred) Tanner, son-in-law, Morris Randall Tanner, a son, David William Kindred, Sr., a brother, Edwin Louis Kindred, sister, Lucille (Kindred) Phillips, sisters-in-law, Dorothy Lee (Dees) Kindred, Joy Kindred, Julia Brooke (Penn) Moore, Jeraldine Roberta (Penn) McCann, Helen M. (Penn) Byrd, and Adelaide Marie "Becky" (Weissbeck) Penn, brothers-in-law, Kenneth Francis Moore, retired Captain Arnold E. Allemand, Jr., and retired Major John Paul McCann, Jr., eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews survived him. His parents, Carl Landlow Kindred and Eva Frances (Isaac) Kindred Fasset Klopfenstein (1891-1974), his brother, Alton Richard Kindred, Sr., (1922-1995), great granddaughter, Hannah Marie Switzer, sister-in-law, Jacinta Lewis (Penn) Allemand, brothers-in-law, Dr. Richard E. Byrd, Sr., George Gibson Penn, Jr., and Robert Jackson Penn, Sr., his beloved mother-in-law, Gertrude Anna (Cartwright) Penn, father-in-law, George Gibson Penn, Sr., and a nephew, George Duane Penn, predeceased him.

A Graveside memorial service in memory of "Bill" was held June 9, 1999, 3:00 PM,
at Arlington Park Cemetery, "Resurrection Hill," 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Duval County, FL 32211, with Dr. Franklin D. Taylor, Sr. officiating and Rev. Samuel Gamble offering a prayer. Grandson, Mark Randall Tanner, using his guitar, sang "I'll See You Again."

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd., South. His obituary was published June 9, 1999, in the Florida Times-Union.
