Sarah Ellen Anderson only spent 35 years on this earth. She was the daughter of Jesse Anderson and Margaret Wineinger. Both the Anderson and Wineinger families, had migrated to Indiana, after the close of the War of 1812. Jesse Anderson and Margaret Wineinger were both born and raised in Pike, Indiana. They grew up together. Not really knowing what would happen next during the horrific American Civil war, they married in 1862.

During the next dozen years, Jesse and Margaret were blessed with 6 known children. His mother, Mary Anderson, resided with them. She passed in 1871. Sometime, after the last known birth of their daughter, Sarah Ellen, in 1874, Margaret died. Jesse never remarried. Later, he merged his family with that of his son, Basel, also a widower.

Sarah never knew her mother. None of Jesse Anderson’s 6 children were over 11 years old. Somehow, the 2 widowers managed to raise 8 children, with the help of Jesse’s daughter Mary, and son Alexander.

Sarah married Raymond Lucas Bee in 1893. She was 21 years old. Raymond was a farmer. They had 6 known children. During these years Sarah saw her father, Jesse, die in 1903. Her uncle, Basil, fading in 1909. It must have been very traumatic to lose the once strong, pillars of her family.

Sarah, herself, took sick in 1910. She died on February 1st, leaving 4 children: Ella, Charles, Elizabeth, and Henry behind. Ella was near 16 and Henry, the youngest, was 4. Her husband, Raymond, was heart-broken. However, reality set in. A coal miner had to work to support his family. Ray understood those dynamics, though they were being forced upon him. He married Addie "Ida" Belle Walton, a widow with 5 children, not much older than Raymond’s, less than a year later.

Over the next 30 years, Raymond went from coal miner, to teamster, back to farmer to support his and Addie’s combined family. Ray had one more child, Raymond Denver Bee, born in 1903. When Raymond died in 1948, he was laid to rest beside Sarah Ellen, who had passed nearly 40 years earlier.
