NEW BERN - Essie Mae Ward, 85, of Twin Rivers Nursing Center, died Wednesday, July 29, 1998 at Craven Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Hatteras United Methodist Church. Essie worked many years at the Burrus Res & White Grocery Store in Hatteras.

Surviving are her nephews: Buddy Swain of New Bern, Clifford W. Swain and wife Billie of New Bern; great-nephews: Clifford W. Swain, Jr. of Greenville and William M. Swain of Greenville; and one sister, Naomi Wade Swain of New Bern.

Funeral services were to be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hatteras United Methodist Church with the Rwv. Jim Huskins officiating, and interment followed in Oden Cemetery in Hatteras. Arrangements by Pollock-Wells and Best Funeral Home, New Bern.
