Rachael Slade along with John Michael Daugherty were hit head on and killed by a drunk driver.

Racheal Elizabeth Slade, 17, died Sunday, July 27, 2008 at Athens Regional Medical Center. A native of Jackson, Mississippi, she was a junior at McMinn Central High School in Etowah. She was employed at Sonic in Etowah as a car-hop. She enjoyed being with children, music, animals, softball, swimming and hanging out with friends. With a mischievous personality, Racheal always left you with an impression you would never forget. Survivors include her mother, Dee Dee McKean of Etowah; her father, Jerome Slade of Laurel, Miss.; step-father, James Bryan Davis of Etowah; 1 sister, Kristen Slade of Etowah; 1 step-sister, Brittany Davis of Etowah; 1 brother, T.J. McKean of Etowah; her grandmother, Jessie Kring, and Paul Williams of Etowah; and a special aunt, Jan Peterson of Etowah. A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2008, in the South Chapel with Layspeaker Paul Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday prior to the service.
