Mattie (Pat) Jacobs, a 70-year resident of the Lewiston-Clarkston
Valley, died of cancer Thursday at the Royal Plaza Care Center at Lewiston.
She was 94.
She was born Jan. 4, 1900, at Fleetwood, N.C., to James J. and Mary Alice
Yates Gentry. She spent the first 10 or 15 years of her life at Fleetwood,
then moved with her family to Pikeville, Ky. She graduated from high school
at Pikeville in 1917, and from business college there in 1919. She worked
for Ed's Water Coal Company at Pikeville for several years, and then moved
to Montana in 1921. She worked for the Industrial Accident Board in Montana
until marrying William A. Jacobs on May 8, 1924, at Butte, Mont. The couple
moved to Lewiston in 1924, and then to Clarkston in 1966. She moved to the
Royal Plaza Care Center three months ago. Her husband died April 1, 1989.
She was a member of the Garden Club, the Iris Club and the Unity Club, and
was active in the women's organization at First United Methodist Church, all
at Lewiston. She received national honors for her involvement with the Iris
Club. She enjoyed oil painting, crocheting, gardening and rock polishing.
Survivors include a son, William A. Jacobs Jr. of Lewiston, and three
grandsons. Three brothers and five sisters died previously.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Merchant Funeral Home at
Clarkston.
The family suggests memorials be given to First United Methodist Church, 906
Broadview Drive, Lewiston 83501, or the American Cancer Society, 3318 Fourth
St., Lewiston.
