Aaron (or Arent) Hassert was born in May 1769 in New Brunswick, Middlesex County, New Jersey. His parents were Jacob Hassert and Ann Voorhees. He had four siblings named Jane (Mrs. David Abeel), Catlina, Lucas, and Cathlina. Aaron married Aletta Voorhees (daughter of Johannes M. Voorhees and Phebe Vanderveer) around 1788. They had ten children named Ann, Catherine, Anna Louise, Jacob, Minnie V., Phebe (Mrs. Alexander Montgomery), Laetitia, Caroline (Mrs. Christian Zabriskie Paulison), Luke, and Emma Louisa (Mrs. Albert Wells). Aaron died on July 20, 1842 in New Brunswick.

Note: Aaron's sister, Jane Hassert (Mrs. David Abeel), was buried near him.
