Funeral services for former McMinnville resident Theodore W. "Ted" Graves of Longview, Wash., will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18, at Bethel Baptist Church in McMinnville. The Rev. Bardwell Marshall will officiate.

Private interment is planned at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Arrangements are being handled by Macy & Son Funeral Directors.

Mr. Graves died at the Canterbury Gardens Retirement Home in Longview on Sunday, July 13, 2008. He was 88.

Born in Turlock, Calif., on March 3, 1920, he was the son of Cecil W. and Blanche B. (Laurence) Graves.

He grew up in Reno. He moved to McMinnville in 1940 to attend Linfield College.

Mr. Graves married Lily May Beebe on Dec. 25, 1941, at Fort Lewis, Wash. While working for Harper Jamison, he joined the Oregon National Guard's 162nd Infantry as it was mobilizing for World War II.

After the war, he returned to Harper Jamison, now known as Oregon Stationers. He became a partner and remained with the business until his retirement in 1982.

He moved to Longview in 2001. He belonged to the Toastmasters, the VFW and Bethel Baptist Church.

"He was a wonderful husband and father who loved the Lord," the family said.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Graves is survived by a son, Daniel of Clatskanie; three daughters, Betty Graves of McMinnville, Dorthie Young of Portland, and LaNea Ewert of Olympia, Wash.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
