George was educated in the public schools of Mansfield, Ohio, and graduated from the Chicago Conservatory of Music in 1891, having studied under the noted teachers, Karl Merz, violinist of Worcester, Ohio, and W.E.C. Seeboeck, pianist of Chicago. Upon completion of his college course he entered the teaching profession, going first to Wauseon Normal where he met the girl who later became his wife and then to Greer College at Hoopston, Illinois, for four years. In 1898 he was on the faculty at Albany College, Oregon, where he remained for three years. Upon completion of the latter contract he returned to Chicago to go on the concert state and to teach but returned West in 1908 after accpeting a contract to teach music in Klamath Falls public schools arriving here in Sept. 7 of that year. He retained that position 7 years, until his resignation in 1915 to open a music store. The first store was at 8th and Main but enjoyed such an excellent patronage that Mr. Wirtz was forced to purchase property on south Sicth Street for an enlarged establishment of the Wirtz Music Store which he operated until his death.
George Adam Wirtz and Cora Adalaide Dunbar were married at Delta, Ohio Aug. 12, 1896. Three children blessed the marriage, Estill Reign Wirtz, born in Hoopston, Illinois, July 3, 1897, Gertrude Fern born in Albany, Oregon March 28, 1900, and Helen born in Delta, Ohio, Oct. 25, 1904.
