HOLDENVILLE -- Services for Terry Newman Jenkins will be at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 7, 2004, at Shurden Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Patrick Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Okmulgee Cemetery.

Born on March 26, 1914, in Swan, Texas, to William and Laura Jane Terry Jenkins, he passed away on Dec. 3, 2004, in Holdenville at the age of 90 years, eight months and seven days.

Raised in northeast Texas and southwest Arkansas, he moved to Arkansas at age 2. He married Hazel Iva Brumfield on July 28, 1941, and raised four children. He was a longtime sawmill worker, starting at age 9, working for his dad. The family moved to Jones, Okla., in July 1960, then to Holdenville in May of 1974.

Mr. Jenkins was employed by Sneed Nursery Company until he retired in 1980. He was an avid reader, having read thousands of books. He was affiliated with the Church of the Nazarene.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Nolan, Neal and Norman; two sisters, Neva Brown and Nora Cooper; a grandson, Ronnie Lee Jenkins; and two great-grandsons, Kevin Jenkins and Steven Bauer.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Terry and wife, Anne, Ardmore, Jerry, Holdenville, and Joe and wife, Deena, Byng; a daughter, Esther Shada and husband, Tom, Springdale, Ark.; two sisters, Nellie Holcomb and Nettie Mitchell, Cleburne, Texas; a sister-in-law, Meleta Jenkins, Grass Valley, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Bearers will be Clif Jenkins, Tommy Freman, Archie Freman, Tom Shada, Chris Freman and Walter Freman. Honorary bearers are grandson, Specialist Wesley Jenkins, and great-grandchildren, Kelly Jenkins and David Lawrence.
