John William Willison was born in Ohio to Abel M and Melinda Casteel Willison on Feb. 26, 1841. He was 61 years old when he married Mary E. Leonard in Butler County, Ohio on Oct. 22, 1902. She was a 36 year old woman that been divorced and her divorced name was Woodruff. She was born Oct 21, 1866 in Ohio. John had been injured in the Civil war and had been an invalid for many years according to his brother David. John joined the army, enlisting on Aug. 18, 1862. He filed for pension on Dec. 6, 1889. His pension said Co. B These records were found in the military archives. John was mustered out and received a disability discharge from Company B, 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment Ohio on 1 Apr 1863.
