Mary's parents were Henry and Caroline Hunger who were natives of Prussia.

She married Oscar Wellington Hake on July 29, 1886 in Larimer County, Colorado. They had two children:

Effie Adelie (John W. Nelson)
Cleo Dorothy (died at age 3 in October 1896)

Mary's husband Oscar was committed to what were then called insane asylums in Colorado and Wisconsin and again in Colorado from 1895 until he died in the asylum in Pueblo in 1903 "an insane epileptic."

Mary divorced Oscar in March 1899 and married John "Henry" Neuschultz, Jr. on June 28, 1899 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They had three children:

Duane Henry (Frances)
Donald
Agnes Novena (died age 13 in 1920)
