THAYER ~ Cleo Stafford, 99, of Thayer died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1992, at the Meadowbrook Manor nursing home, Chanute.

She was born Dec. 28, 1892, at Morehead to Vestal and Carrie (Bull) Adams. She grew up and spent her entire life in the Thayer area.

She married George Elwyn Stafford April 8, 1914, at Morehead. He died June 24, 1929.

She was a member of the Thayer United Methodist Church, where she earlier served as church pianist.

Mrs. Stafford had served as supervisor of the fancy work division of the annual Thayer homecoming. This year's homecoming was dedicated to her.

Survivors include a daughter, Vera Harms of Thayer; four sons, Eugene of Lake Placid, Fla., Keith of Ocala, Fla., Raymond of Westfield, N.J., and Harold of Kansas City, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, and a son who was killed over France during World War II.

The service will be at 1:30 p.m Wednesday at the Thayer United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Hannon officiating. Burial will be in Morehead Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Johnson Mortuary at Chanute.

The family suggests memorials to the church.
