The funeral for James. W. Thurmond will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Glendale Road Church of Christ. John Dale and Garry Evans will officiate. Singing will be by Todd and Sheila Walker and Missing Links. Pallbearers will be Gene McDougal, Tommy Carraway, Johnny Miller, Kevin Mack, Ryan Houston and Taylor Houston. Burial will follow in the Murray City Cemetery. Visitation will be at J.H. Churchill Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. today (Friday) and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Mr. Thurmond, 88, Glendale Place, Murray, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at 6 p.m. at Glendale Place. A Navy veteran of World War II, he had retired from the former Bank of Murray after 37 years as a banker. He was a member, past treasurer, and a former elder of Glendale Road Church of Christ. Preceding him in death were his wife, Frances Thurmond, on April 28, 2005, and one brother, Edwin Thurmond. Born Sept. 5, 1918, in Calloway County, he was the son of the late Luby F. Thurmond and Ruby F. Miller Thurmond. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Betty Ryan and husband, Nicky, Murray; one son, Dr. James David Thurmond, D.P.M. and wife, Camille, Defiance, Ohio; four grandchildren, David Ryan and wife, Tina, Brent E. Thurmond and wife, Natalie, and Amelia F. Houston and husband, Keith, all of Murray, and Jason D. Thurmond, Toledo, Ohio; five great-grandchildren, Ryan K. Houston, James T. Houston, Robyn Ryan, Hannah Ryan and Claire M. Thurmond.
