George Dunsmore was born in Roanoke, Virginia on May 28, 1865. He was the first (?) of eight children born to Lucy Jane Patsel Nov 6, 1839 – Apr 1916 and Evans Washington Atkins Mar 1837 – Jul 4, 1916; they were married on Jan 29, 1860 in Franklin Co., Virginia; now West Virginia. Lucy and Evans were both born and passed in Franklin County.

George's siblings were Charles William 1869 – 1936, John Evans 1869 – 1928, James Joseph 1871 – 1950, Lucy Fannie 1872 – 1938, Mary Emmaline 1875 – 1936, Omer Lee 1876 – 1957. In the 1900 census it is stated his mother gave birth to 8 and that one had passed.

On Dec 24, 1889 he entered into marriage with Lula Venora Miller; daughter of Sarah E. Campbell 1852 – 1876, and William (Billy) Miller 1831 – 1897; and from this union thirteen children were born; Robert Lee 1893? – 1973, William Henry 1891? – 1976, Mary Elizabeth 1895? – 1914? , Thomas Lewis 1895? – 1979, Frank Evans 1896 – 1968, Charles Mathew Sr. 1899 – 1955, Lena Gertrude 1902 – 1961, Elsie Nora 1903 – 1955, Sadie Viola 1906 – 1972, Beulah Juanita 1908 – 1981, Susie Alice 1909 – 1961, Virginia S. 1912 – 1996, George Calvin 1914 – 1960.

In his early years he worked as a farm laborer, later working as a hinge man in the boiler industry.

George struggled with Asthma & Biter's disease passing on Jan 26, 1930 with his remains being interned in Campbell's Cemetery.
