Rufino Guerricabeitia, 64, a longtime resident of Bridgeport died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in the Okanogan-Douglas Hospital at Brewster.

He was born November 3, 1939, the son of Norberto and Feliciana (Jayo Zabala) Guerricabeitia in Viscaya, Spain. When Rufino first came to the United States, he was a sheep herder for a while. Rufino moved to Bridgeport in 1971, and went to work on construction of Chief Joseph, Grand Coulee and several other dams in the area. It was in Bridgeport where he met and married his future wife, Louise Mizell Austin, and they continued to make their home in Bridgeport. In July of 1976, their son, Robert was born in Brewster. Rufino was a member of the Bridgeport Eagles.

He is survived by his grandson, Robert; granddaughter, Kesley; daughter-in-law, Sonja Ruiz, of Brewster; step-son, Henry Austin; step-daughter, Mary Lara, both of Bridgeport; grandchildren, Tito, Jessica, Garrett, Savannah, Courtney and Michael; one great-grandson, Daniel; a brother, Jose Guerricabeitia of Rupert, Idaho; two brothers and four sisters in Spain; special friends, Little Rufino; John and Inez Givens, plus all his friends at the Eagles, Chief Joe's Club, and the parts shop.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Louise in 1994; his son, Robert in 2002; and one brother.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2004 at the American Legion Hall in Bridgeport with Donn Plew officiating. Committal Service and Interment to follow at the Bridgeport Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, April 3, 2004 from 1-8 p.m. and on Sunday, April 4, 2004 from 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Barnes Chapel, Brewster.
