He was born May 14, 1909 at Perry Mines, WV the son of the late Ernest L. and Virginia Williams Mathews.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Mathews of Pittsburgh, his step-mother, Mrs. Verna Mathews of Hepzibah, one half-sister, Mrs. Ruby Casto of Stonewood, and three half-brothers; Paul Mathews of Clarksburg; Thomas Matthews of Hepzibah and Marvin Matthews of Stonewood.
He was an employee of the Jones and Laughlin Steel Company in Pittsburgh.
Graveside services will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery, Clarksburg, WV, Saturday, April 6th at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Donzel Nicholson, Pastor of the Hepzibah Baptist Church, officiating. Interment in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
