Funeral services for Wayne Skinner are Saturday, Sept 29, at 12 noon in the grover LDS Church. There will be a viewing from 10 to 11:30.
Wayne Skinner, 84, died Wednesday, Sept 26, 2001, at his home after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept 29, 2001, in the Grover LDS Chapel. Burial was in the Grover Cemetery.
He was born Nov 8, 1916 at Bedford to Joseph Alma and Anna Fluckiger Skinner, the third of 11 children.
He was raised and schooled in Bedford. He worked for various farmers while growing up. At age 16 he joined the CCCs for three years. He loved sports and played on the local basketball team that played the first Globe Trotters that came to Star Valley.
He married Carma Leavitt Feb 11, 1937 and to this union five daughters were born; Patricia L., Carolyne Jo, Jackie Diane, Sandra Duane and Shirley Ellen. They lived in Bedford for a period of time until he bought a farm in Grover, where he lived until his death.
He was a farmer, carpenter and bricklayer. He taught himself how to do each of these things as was needed. He helped build the road up Greys River and Snake River. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions. He was chairman of the building committee when the Grover Church was built. He served on the board of Star Valley Creamery Co. and Star Valley Swiss Cheese Co. He also served on the Selective Service Board for Lincoln and Unita Counties.
He believed in being honest and doing a good job at whatever he was doing. He took great pride in his work and in learning to do new things. He tried to install this in his family and others who worked for him.
He is survived by his widow, Carma Skinner, daughters; Patrica L. Hinkle, Paradise Valley AZ, Carolyne Jo Allen Grover, Jackie Diane Winward, Malad ID; Sandra Duane Sherman, Rigby; Shirley Ellen Finn, Rigby; brothers; Leroy Skinner, Afton; Floyd F. Skinner Bedford; Wilbert Skinner, Arizona; Blaine Skinner Island Park, ID; Jay Junior Skinner, California; sisters; Verda Clark Blackfoot; Vernessa Ransom, Salt Lake City; 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren one great-great grandchild.
