Boy Suffocates in Slide of Earth

Second Son of Fiscus Family to Meet Death in Coal Bank. Other News by Otterbein Correspondent

Harold Fiscus, fifteen year old son of Oliver & Sarah Fiscus, was killed by falling earth Friday afternoon while digging coal at a bank east of Patricksburg. They were digging coal for home use. The father saw several hundred pounds of earth slide down and strike his son, knocking the breath out of the boy's body and half burying him. The father realized he could not summon help quickly enough, so without assistance dug the boy out and hurried him to Patricksburg. Life was extinct. Coroner J.P. Whitaker of Owen county, conducted an investigation and his report will probably be death by suffocation. Four years ago Mr. Fiscus saw his son Ernest killed in a similar manner.
Surviving are the parents and six sisters; Mrs Bessie (Garret) Hamilton, of Worthington, Mrs Ethella (Cletus) Campbell, Mrs Gertude Stantz & Mrs Fern (Roy) Landis of Coal City, Mrs Maude (Roy) Radway of Linton, & Miss Norma Fiscus at home, also the grandmother, Mrs Isabella Fiscus of Freedom and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday morning at the home b Rev Max Day of Spencer. Burial at Dutch Bethel.
