Truman Amidon, prominent farmer in Shaftsbury until two years ago and who was well known locally as he had sold butter and eggs to Benington customers over a long period, died suddenly at Putnam Memorial hospital about 10 o'clock Monday evening. He had been moved to the hospital four days ago.
Mr. Amidon was 76 years old, having been born in Shaftsbury Decmber 1, 1866. His boyhood was spent in that village and then for a time he resided at White Creek. When a young man, he returned to his home town, Shaftsbury, where he was engaged in farming continuously until two years ago. He was married March 18, 1897, to Anna Dyer, who died January 6, 1942.
When Mr. Amidon retired from his farm, he sold the place and purchased the Downs property in North Bennington, where he was residing at the time of his death. In his long experience as a farmer , he was often consulted by neighborhood farmers on various problems.
Mr. and Mrs. Amidon had one daughter who died in infancy.
The funeral will be held from his late home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
