Maggie Elkins

Maggie Elkins, 74, of Twin Branch Road, London, died Saturday, June 28, 2008, at her home. The daughter of the late Levi and Eliza Bell Vaughn Vandy, she was born on Feb. 20, 1934 in Laurel County, Ky. She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James Lewis Elkins; her brothers Walter Vandy, Harry Vandy and Willie Vandy; her sisters Lizzie Buttrey, Mary Bowling, Mollie Johnson, Hazel Martin, and Daisy Vandy; and her great-grandson David Lewis Elkins.

She is survived by her daughter Katherine Elkins, of London, her son James Lewis Elkins Jr., of Salyersville, Ky., her brother Arthur Vandy and his wife Ethel, of London, two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at London Funeral Home's chapel, with Verrell Root, Carmen Brewer and Roger Bowling officiating. Burial followed at McDaniel Cemetery in East Bernstadt.Clay Philpot, Thomas Buttrey, Wayne Bowling, Kenny Brown, Jack Brown, and Danny Bowling served as pallbearers.
