Mr. John L. Akins, age 87, died Saturday at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a retired farmer and dairyman. He was a member of the Georgia Farm Bureau, the Soil Conservation Service, the Jenkins County Dairy Association, and served on the Board of Bulloch Rural Telephone Co-Op. Mr. Akins was a member of the Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Brotherhood. He was preceded in death by his son John Roger Akins and two brothers; Harold Akins, and W.B. Akins.

Surviving are his wife Anna Ruth Cason Akins of Register. Three sons and four daughters-in-law also survive; Carl O. and Jean D. Akins of Statesboro, Elder William A. and Janis T. Akins of Vidalia, James E. and Nancy F. Akins of Statesboro and Theresa Lanier Akins of Statesboro. One brother, James J. Akins of Athens, Ga also survives. Mr. Akins is survived by seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The funeral services for Mr. Akins will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Elders John Shelton Mikell, John Brannen Purser and Pat McCoy officiating.

Burial will be in Bethelem Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Grandsons and grandsons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Board of Directors of Bulloch Telephone Co-Op.

The family request memorial contributions to be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
