Thomas George Gadwa married Bette J. Crick at 2 PM on 14 June 1969 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, Grays Harbor County, Washington.

On Sunday, 18 May 1980 Thomas "Tom" G. Gadwa, 35, of Montesano and co-worker Wallace "Wally" Norwood Bowers, were last seen leaving for work from Toledo, Lewis Co., WA at 7:30 AM. They were logging in the Shultz Creek area of Cowlitz County, approximately 7-10 miles NW of Mt. St. Helens. Wally and Tom were filling in on Keith Ross's 20 man logging crew, doing work for Weyerhauser. At 8:32 AM Mt. St. Helens erupted with a lateral blast of about 300 MPH and temperature of approximately 392o at Shultz Creek location. Tom and Wally were never found. Some of Wally's belongings were later located, including his wallet in October 1982.

County sells Hoffstadt Bluffs Visitor Center for summer kids camp

"The agreement stipulates that the one-acre Memorial Grove of trees, which were planted in honor of the 57 people who died in the eruption of May 18, 1980, eruption of Mount St. Helens, will remain intact. The public will still be allowed to access the grove during business hours and on the eruption’s anniversary."
