Edwin J. "Ed" Cheney
Funeral service for Edwin J. "Ed" Cheney, 78, of Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist East with the Rev. Doug Passmore, pastor, officiating.

Mr. Cheney died Monday, July 21, 2008, in Lawton.

Entombment will be at the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

He was born Dec. 17, 1929, in Oklahoma City to Louie and Carrie Bell Bushman Cheney. He graduated from Bremen High School in 1948. He served in the National Guard, joining in 1951. He worked for the Tulsa Fire Department as a firefighter for four years and then worked as a salesman for Mid-Continent Permanent Cookware. He lived in Sand Springs. before moving to Lawton in 1983, where he worked as a carpenter and owned and operated E & C Landscaping until retiring in 2006. He married Ruth Easton Dec. 20, 1985 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a member of First Baptist East.

Survivors include his wife of the home; two sons, Edwin J. Cheney, Jr., and his wife, Carolyn, of Atlanta, Ga., and David B. Easton of Indiahoma; a daughter, Tammy Neuwirth and her husband, Gerald, of Lawton; a brother, Kenneth Cheney of Perry; two sisters, Rowena Atkinson, of Longmont, Colo., and Verna Busch of Perkins; eight grandchildren, Kimberly Cheney, Kalli Cheney, Amy Edgar, Bonnie Pruitt, Keegan Wright, Maggie Wright, Nicole Wright and Abbie Wright; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Pruitt, Tyson Pruitt, and Easton Edgar. He was a special paw-paw to Missy Cullers, Chad Wright, Keith Wright, Kyle Tatroult, and Lacy Tatroult.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, a brother and two sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist East Building Fund, "Building for His Glory", 3302 SE Lee Blvd., Lawton, OK 73501.
