Mike Adcock, age 66 of Rockwall, TX, passed away May 11, 2008. He was born January 15, 1942, in Spur, TX, to Julius Orlando Adcock and Virda (Dement) Adcock. His birth certificate bore the name of Cecil Wayne but he unofficially renamed himself "Mike." Mike proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force. When he enlisted, he was promised a tour of duty overseas. He spent the next four years in El Paso, which to some might seem to be another country. Upon his discharge from service, he resided in Lubbock where he met his wife, Mary Lou. After only two weeks of courtship, he proposed marriage and the rest, as they say, is history. Mike enjoyed several jobs in sales, working as a route salesman for Mrs. Baird's Bread, Quaker State Oil, and Frito Lay. In 1980, he hired on with Southwestern Bell Telephone and retired after 20 years of devoted service, most of which was spent in the Credit Card Fraud Department. He then began doing volunteer work with Mary Lou for the Telephone Pioneers of America, an organization devoted to helping others. In 2005, Mike and Mary Lou moved to Rockwall. The school district desperately needed Crossing Guards and he immediately offered his services to the district. A short time later, he was asked to become a Bus Driver. Although it was by far the lowest paying job he ever had, it quickly became the job he loved the most out of all he had ever had. He would have done it without pay.
Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years: Mary Lou Adcock of Rockwall, TX; son: Michael Neal of Richardson, TX; daughter: Christy Renae Beach & fiancé Michael Sell of Lake Highlands, TX; brother: Rev. Pete Adcock & wife Ina of Texarkana, TX; sister: Nina Hammons & husband Von of Abilene, TX; and four grandchildren: Taylor Michelle, Barrett Christyne, Nathan Neal and Bailee Danielle. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Raleigh, J. O. "Bunky" and Edward; two sisters: Ruby and Ann; and his beloved son-in-law: Richard Michael Beach, whom he loved liked a son.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel with Rev. Pete Adcock officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
