#101 - Negro executed in the electric chair for his part in a robbery, rape, and murder.
Johnson was serving a 35 year sentence for a string of burglaries when he escaped for a third time. On September 9, 1931, he and Richard_Brown robbed a couple who had parked and were sitting in their car in Wichita Falls. The driver, a Fort Worth oilman named Ted_Nodurft, tried to drive away and was shot. He later died. The men took his fiancee from the car, robbed her of a diamond ring and a watch, and then raped her. Both men were arrested after the ring and a pistol were recovered. Each man confessed to the robbery and implicated the other as the one who shot Nodurft. Both were convicted and executed.
