FORT PIERCE MOURNS A PROMINENT CITIZEN
In the death of Hon. K. B. Raulerson, which occurred in Atlanta, Ga., Monday morning. Fort Pierce has been called upon to give up one of its most prominent, influential and active citizens, one who has willingly given of his time and means toward every effort for the upbuilding and progress of our town. His loss will be a severe blow to our city, and citizens in every walk of life feel that they have been personally bereaved in his sudden death.

Keightley Braxton Raulerson was born at Seville, Volusia county, Florida, Sepember 19, 1861. His early life was spent at Seville and at Geneva, Orange county, where he was engaged in cattle raising. He moved to Fort Pierce in 1896, where he formed the East Coast Cattle Company, and has since been its president, the company buying cattle in all parts of Florida and Georgia and operating extensive slaughter houses in Fort Pierce, supplying practically all of the native beef used along the East Coast from New Smyrna to Key West. Shipments being made on practically every express train leaving this city. The company has also operated in the regular trade in many of the towns along the coast, and in Fort Pierce. their really meat and grocery business is known as the Raulerson Grocery Company. Six weeks ago Mr. Raulerson accompanied his wife to Atlanta for treatment by specialists. While in the city he consulted eminent specialists in regard to a minor ailment and submitted to a slight operation which was entirely successful. He was discharged from the hospital, where both he and his wife had been operated upon, and took a room in the Hotel Marion. At that time a sudden change in the weather occurred, frost and a light snow being upon the ground and in his weakened condition from the operation he contracted pneumonia, for four weeks he battled against his malady, and following seventeen days of unconsciousness he passed away Monday. When his condition became serious his brother Frank J. Raulerson and brother-in-law, Judge Fred Fee, were summoned and remained at his bedside until death. Mr. Raulerson was one of the first citizens of St. Lucie county. Before division, in 1900-1, he represented Brevard county in the lower house of the State legislature. When the county was divided and St. Lucie county formed, Mr. Raulerson became a member of the new Board of County Commissioners, and largely through his business ability, the young county without funds, was enabled to build the present county jail and lay the foundations for our present progress. At the expiration of his term Mr. Raulerson retired from office to devote his time to private business, but his services were to valuable to the public and he was again elected a member of the board last year and was elected as chairman of the board, which position he held at the time of his death.

Beside his wife Mr. Raulerson is survived by five brothers and three sisters, viz,: Frank J. Raulerson, of Fort Pierce; Lucius Raulerson, of West Palm Beach; C. H. Raulerson, formerly of Miami; Claude A. and William Raulerson, of Geneva; Mrs. Mary Nicholson, of Geneva; Mrs. Ida Coffee, of Lee, and Miss Lillie Raulerson, of Atlanta, Ga,; all being present at the funeral except Mrs. Nicholson, Mrs. Coffee and William Raulerson. The remains arrived from Atlanta on the evening train Wednesday, and were met by many of the sorrowing friends, who assisted in removing them to the late home. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church Thursday at 2 p. m., Judge A. D. Penny officiating, and a select choir rendered an excellent and most appropriate musical program. All places of business were closed during the hours of the funeral as a mark of respect to the memory of one of their most valuable associates. Interment was made in the Fort Pierce cemetery, three of the associates on the Board of County Commissioners D. E. Austin, E. A. Holt and N. C. Jorgensen, with P. P. Cobb, C. M. Horton and R. Whyte acting as pall bearers. The Tribune joins the hosts of friends of the bereaved family in extending sincere sympathy in their hour of bereavement.
