  • Birth 1 Oct 1837 Beaver Dam, Richmond County, North Carolina, USA
  • Death 6 Apr 1891 Roberdell, Richmond County, North Carolina, USA
  • Burial Roberdell, Richmond County, North Carolina, USA

Youngest daughter of Mary Polly Oliver and Daniel McDonald. She was the first wife of Elisha C. Terry with whom she had eight children.

Abigail's father, Daniel McDonald, emigrated as a boy from Scotland. He died at age 79 when Abbie was four years old. The family had a large homestead on Graham Bridge Road in Richmond County. [The house sits at the junction of Graham Bridge Road and Scott McDonald Road and can be seen online in Bing Maps, bird's eye view.]

In the 1850 US Federal Census, 12-year old Abbie is found living in the large household of Bethrine and Abigail McKenzie. Her relationship to them is unknown. Her 45-year old mother was living alone but next door to Abbie's brother John age 21, who is also listed alone. Brother Daniel was living in the Samuel Gibson household. Brother William Alexander was a teacher in the R.T. Long household. Her sisters, Mary and Katie, were married.

Early Marriage Bonds of Richmond County NC (1783-1872) show that Abigail McDonald married Elisha C. Terry on 30 September 1858. The Terrys were long-established farmers in Richmond County who owned property north of Hitchcock's Creek [now known as the town of Roberdell]. The McDonalds lived a short distance east in Beaver Dam Township.

Abbie and Elisha raised eight children on a large farm near the junction of Roberdell School Road and Terry Bridge Road. One daughter, Emma, died at age 19; three other children, Gustave, James and Cora Lee (aka Floria) died as young adults. The other four lived well into the 20th century and had large families whose descendants still reside in Richmond County.

Abbie died in 1891 at the age of 53 of 'la grippe', according to her attached death notice. La grippe is a former name for influenza.

Elisha married a second time to a widowed neighbor lady, Martha Jane (nee McKay) Covington.
