Pottery Artist. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was a member of the prominent McLaughlin family. Best known for her painting of pottery pieces, she was also a pioneer painter of china in the United States. McLaughlin attended the Cincinnati School of Design in 1874. She is considered as the first ceramic artist in the United States to use the "under-glaze technique." She founded the Cincinnati Pottery Club in 1879. McLaughlin is also remembered for her ongoing rivalry with Maria Longworth Nichols Storer, the founder of the Rookwood Pottery. She died at her residence in Norwood, Ohio in 1939 when she was 91 years old. She was the sister of famous Cincinnati architect, James W. McLaughlin.
