George A. Jones, 81, of Junction City, died Dec. 26, 2003 at the Robert P. Dole Memorial VA Hospital in Wichita. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mass-Hinitt Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral chapel. A military chaplain will officiate the service. Burial will be at Fort Riley Cemetery with military honors.
Jones was born July 12, 1922, in Meadville, Mo., the son of Grant and Mary Lisby Jones.
Jones spent 22 years in the U. S. Army and 27 years in civil service, driving a truck for the commissary. He was a prisoner of war in World War II in North Africa for more than a year. He also fought in the Korean conflict. He was in Berlin at the time the wall was built. He spent the past 43 years in the Junction City area.
Jones was married to Doris Maxine Coulter on Jan. 4, 1941; they later divorced. He then married Johanna Hoff on Nov. 6, 1960 at Fort Bragg, N.C.
Survivors include his wife, Johanna Jones of Junction City; two sons, Dannie G. Jones of Chapman and Warren E. Jones of Junction City; one daughter, Myrna Kaye Otti of San Antonio; one brother, Leland C. Jones of Desoto; one sister, Gladys Clymens of Tacoma, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother, Morgan L. Jones; one son, Ralph Gene Jones; and two grandchildren.
